Rolla's Slone To Chase NASCAR Missouri Championship

By Ronnie Williams (Lebanon, MO) -- Rolla veteran Mike Slone has captured 2 Lebanon I-44 Speedway track Pro Late Model Titles back in 2010 and 2012 when the track went pack to pavement and when the track was sanction by the ASA Series.

For 2017, Slone has joined forces with Phil Harris and plan on making a run for the 2017 NASCAR Missouri and I-44 track Championship.

Slone, who won the last 3 consecutive Pro Late Model features at the end of the 2016 in Paul Jepsen's Late Model including The Salute to 75 feature to end last season knows that it will be a tough road ahead as the competition level in the Pro Late Models is very tight.

" Normally I dont go points racing, but Phil is giving me a real chance in some very good equipment as he purchased a Pro Late Model from Kevin Crider Racing. Phil is going to compete in the Modified class. we really worked good together late last season and I also took home a win in his Modified at the end of the season. Together we are look forward to 2017."

Nicknamed "The Beast Of The East" for his hard charging, aggressive style of driving knows that it won't be a easy task but likes some of the changes I-44 is doing for 2017.

The Speedway will be qualifying the Late Models weekly by time trials helping to set-up the Fast Dash events and heat races and features. " This gives drivers who want to compete from other areas a chance to get a decent spot and not having to start at the end of the pack every time. This will also make a better feature for the fans with the semi-inversion and will mix the starting line-ups weekly. The fast cars won't be up front or all the way to the rear. I think we will see even closer racing overall."

Slone's will begin his chase for a Missouri NASCAR State title and hopefully a trip to the Awards Banquet on Saturday April 29th when The Lebanon I-44 Speedway begins the season with a 50 lap Pro Late Model Feature paying $1200 to win along with action in the Modifieds, Street Stocks and Chargers with Racing to begin at 7:30.
